Baked Potatoes in the Oven

You can never go wrong with baked potatoes in the oven, and this easy method is the best way to do it! A simple potato that cooks with little to no effort and is sure to please a crowd. Serve with a variety of toppings and make each baked potato your own.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 55 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tsp salt or to taste

Instructions

  • Wash and scrub the potatoes under running water, removing any imperfections.
  • Use a paper towel to pat the potato down until it is completely dry.
  • Add the potatoes to a baking sheet, coat each potato with oil, and sprinkle with salt.
  • Use a fork to puncture holes in each potato.
  • Bake the potatoes at 425°F for 50-55 minutes, or until a fork pierces the center of each potato with ease.

Notes

  • Toppings. Toppings are where you can have so much fun with a simple baked potato. Serve up with the classic bacon, sour cream, cheese, and green onions, or get creative with a chili-baked potato or a pulled-pork baked potato.
  • Air fryer method. Don’t have an hour to wait? That’s where your air fryer comes in handy! Place the prepared potatoes in an air fryer, and bake at 400°F for 35-45 minutes.
  • Grilling method. Wrap the prepared potatoes in foil and place on the grill grates. Cover and cook for 40-50 minutes, flipping occasionally.
  • Store leftovers. Store the cooled baked potatoes in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Warm up the leftovers in the oven until cooked through.
