Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 12 oz baby bella mushrooms sliced
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the ground beef. Break the meat into small lumps as it cooks, stirring occasionally, until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the onions, mushrooms, and butter.
  • Cook until the onions and mushrooms are tender, about 4-5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  • Sprinkle in the flour and stir quickly to combine.
  • Add the broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Turn the heat to med/low, and cook until the sauce starts to boil.
  • Add the sour cream and stir until incorporated. Bring to a soft boil.
  • Serve over your favorite noodles.
  • Enjoy, friends.

Notes

  • Brown the beef first. Browning the ground beef before adding the sauce builds rich, deep flavor.
  • Don’t skip the vegetables. Mushrooms and onions add essential flavor and depth—this dish wouldn’t be the same without them.
  • Serve right away. Stroganoff is best enjoyed immediately for the best texture and flavor.
  • Storage. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating. Reheat gently in a skillet until warmed through. Serve over freshly cooked pasta.
  • Freezing. Freezing isn’t recommended, as the creamy sauce may separate once thawed.
