Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 12 slices

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf french bread
  • 1 stick unsalted butter softened
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mexican blend cheese grated
  • 2 Tbsp fresh herbs to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare bread. Slice the bread in half lengthwise.
  • Make the compound butter. Combine the softened butter, garlic, italian seasoning, and salt. Stir until smooth.
  • Spread butter. Add half of the butter mixture to one side and repeat with the other side.
  • Add cheese. Distribute the cheese over the butter mixture.
  • Cook. Bake at 375°F for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is fully melted.

Notes

  • Choose a sturdy loaf. French or Italian bread works best for garlic bread because it gets crispy on the outside while staying soft on the inside.
  • Be generous with the toppings. The buttery garlic spread and melted cheese are what make this bread so irresistible, so don’t hold back.
  •
  • Freshly shredded cheese. Use freshly shredded cheese for the best result. Pre-shredded cheese doesn’t melt as well.
  • Enjoy it fresh. Cheesy garlic bread is best served straight from the oven while the cheese is hot, melted, and perfectly gooey.
  • Storage. Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat. Warm in a 350°F oven or air fryer for 3–5 minutes, until heated through and the cheese is melted. For the best texture, skip the microwave.
  • Freeze. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil, then freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating, or bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
