Add the sugar and water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir until all the sugar has dissolved (1-2 minutes).
Allow the syrup to cool, and place it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
You can make your simple syrup any flavor you want by adding ingredients to the simmering sugar. Our favorite variations include adding mint leaves, lavender, or vanilla beans.
Store the simple syrup in a jar or an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Use the simple syrup in cocktails, iced coffees, lemonade, and teas.
