Tuna Melt Sandwich

This tuna melt sandwich is the perfect, flavorful, and straightforward sandwich that couldn’t be easier to make. Buttered bread is packed with a creamy tuna filling and melted cheese, making it the perfect comfort meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 5 oz each cans tuna, drained
  • 1/4 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 medium tomato sliced into 4 slices
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese or ½ cup shredded cheese
  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 Tbsp butter room temp

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the tuna, onion, garlic, mayo, salt, and pepper.
  • Add half of the mixture to a bread slice, top with two tomato slices and two cheese slices, then cover with the second bread slice. Spread butter over both sides of the bread slices. Repeat with the second sandwich.
  • Preheat the skillet or griddle.
  • Place the sandwiches onto the preheated skillet, and cook until golden brown on the bottom.
  • Flip then cook until the second side is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  • Remove sandwiches to plates, then slice and serve.

Notes

  • Don’t skip buttering the bread to get that delicious golden-brown exterior. 
  • When toasting the sandwich, use a hot pan to crisp up the bread. 
  • Store leftover tuna melt mixture in the fridge for 1-2 days.
