Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 8 turnovers

Ingredients

filling:

  • 4 granny smith apples peeled and diced (1 lb unpeeled)
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

apple turnover:

  • 2 square puff pastry sheets
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp water

glaze:

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F at step 2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Add the ingredients for the filling to a saucepan and stir. Cook over medium/low heat until the apples are tender, not mushy, about 5 minutes. Set the filling aside to completely cool.
  • Cut the pastry sheets - cut each puff pastry sheet into four equal parts, resulting in eight squares.
  • Spoon the apple filling onto one corner of the square. Fold over the corner and press down with a fork to seal the turnover.
  • Whisk the egg and water, and brush the top of the turnover. If desired, cut slashes in each turnover (optional).
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  • Combine the powdered sugar with the milk for the glaze. Once cooled, drizzle the glaze.

Notes

  • Only drizzle the turnovers once they are cooled completely.
  • For a sweeter glaze, use milk for the liquid. If you like a hint of lemon, use lemon juice for a tangy glaze.
  • Serve the apple turnover with vanilla ice cream for an incredible combination.
