Ingredients for Apple Turnovers
When it comes to baking, it doesn’t get easier than this!
- Apples – Granny Smith apples are the best for desserts! They’re not too sweet and cook down to a tender texture. Peel the apples for the best texture and flavor. However, just about any apple will work.
- Filling – Sugar and cinnamon add a great flavor to the filling, and cornstarch acts as a thickening agent.
- Puff pastry – Store-bought puff pastry dough makes for a great dough without the labor of making it from scratch! Easy peasy!
- Glaze – A mix of powdered sugar and milk makes for the best drizzle.

How to Make Apple Turnovers – Easy Recipe
The easiest step-by-step pastry recipe:

- Make apple turnover filling. Add the filling ingredients to a saucepan and cook over medium heat until the apples are tender, but not mushy. Once cooked, set the filling aside to cool.

2. Assemble. Cut the puff pastry sheet into eight squares with a sharp knife. Spoon an equal amount of apple mixture into the corner of each square, fold over, and seal the edges with a fork.

3. Fold. Add the turnovers to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and use a sharp knife to score lines.

4. Bake. Brush the turnovers with egg wash and bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes or until the turnovers are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow them to cool. Whisk together milk and powdered sugar to create the drizzle. Once the turnovers are cooled, pour the drizzle over the top.
Expert Tips:
- Glaze. To achieve the perfect hardened glaze, refrain from drizzling until the turnover is thoroughly cooled.
- Serve. Top the turnovers with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the most delicious combination.
Store & Reheat
- Storage. Apple turnovers can remain fresh at room temperature for a few hours, but if you want to store them for up to 2 days, the best way is in the refrigerator, wrapped tightly.
- Reheat. Enjoy the apple turnover cold straight out of the fridge, or warm! Add the turnover to the air fryer and heat at 350°F for a few minutes, or until warm.
