This homemade strawberry lemonade recipe creates a simple, homemade drink that offers a healthier alternative to store-bought beverages. This sparkling lemonade makes the perfect summer BBQ drink, being both easy and refreshing. Unlike a strawberry banana smoothie, which is a blended rich drink, a lemonade is a refreshing beverage that’s much lighter.

Before You Start
Here are the simple ingredients you’ll need for a homemade lemonade with strawberries.
- Simple syrup – Our homemade simple syrup, made with just sugar and water, perfectly sweetens this drink.
- Strawberries – For this recipe, you’ll want to get sweet, ripe strawberries. They have the most stunning color and the best sweet flavor.
- Lemon juice – To get the best flavor, we peel the lemons and blend them, rather than squeezing them.
- Club soda – You want to use any sparkling water. Club soda, tonic water or sparkling mineral water will all work as the base.

Low-Sugar Version
Our recipe makes a sweet and delicious lemonade, but of course, that comes with sugar. This drink is one that we offer on special occasions as a sweet treat, but here are some ways to make this lemonade with less sugar:
- Sugar-free alternative: Substitute cane sugar for your favorite sugar-free sweetener. Use stevia, splenda, or monk fruit instead! These alternatives are strong, so start with half of the amount of sugar that the recipe calls for and taste before adding more.
- Sour lemonade: I know there are a few of you out there who love a drink that makes you pucker! In that case, you can reduce the amount of sugar by 75% to make a sour lemonade. A delicious and healthy version!
How to Make Strawberry Lemonade from Scratch
- Make simple syrup. In a pot, heat water and sugar to a light simmer. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool.
- Make puree. Use a blender to blend fresh strawberries and peeled lemons to create a puree.
- Serve. In a pitcher, mix the simple syrup, puree, and club soda. Serve the drink over ice cubes, and enjoy!
Make-Ahead Tips
To prep this drink in advance, mix the simple syrup and puree. Store in the fridge for up to a week. When ready to serve, simply combine the sweet puree and club soda.
