I especially love salads like this easy recipe for parties because you can prepare it the night before and mix it before serving the day of the party. Crab meat with freshly shredded cabbage, corn, peas and cucumbers are such a wonderful combination.

We have family get-togethers often and many times they are last minute. We all bring a dish from home and do a potluck dinner or lunch. This cabbage crab salad is perfect to do for days like that. The crab salad is simple and quick and is a hit with the adults and kids alike. The combinations of the ingredients go so well together and it’s so easy to make! 10 minutes and you have yourself a wonderful cabbage salad!

This salad is such a simple salad to make. Shredding cabbage can be such a tedious task and can get annoying. However, I use a slicer which makes shredding so much easier and quicker. The pieces are shredded fine and the same in size! Other than the cabbage, it’s only the cucumbers and crab there need chopping. You just add the fresh corn (or canned corn), fresh peas (or frozen peas) with dill and the salad is complete.

This salad has a great variety of the ingredients, I especially like the corn. I love using corn in salads! It adds so much flavor to salads, this one as well. In this corn salad, you can use canned corn or fresh cooked corn. The corn brings a sweetness to the flavors of the salad. If you haven’t tried using corn in salads, you must try! It’s delicious and you will love it!

This salad calls for crab, you can use different kinds of crab meat. Canned crab, imitation crab, or fresh crab can be used. You can serve this cabbage crab salad as a side, or even just enjoy it for lunch. I especially love this salad in the summertime when you can have ingredients fresh from the garden. Just prepare your salad and when ready to eat, mix the salad with the mayo and you have a delicious and fresh crunchy salad within minutes.

  • 1/2 cabbage, about 4 1/2 cups packed, chopped
  • 2 small cucumbers, julienned
  • 8 oz crab meat, cubed
  • 3/4 cup frozen peas or canned, thawed
  • 1 cup canned corn
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2 Tbsp dill
  • Salt & pepper


  • Finely shred the cabbage. 
  • Julienne the cucumbers. Cube the crab meat. Chop dill. 
  • Add the peas, corn, dill, and mayonnaise. Salt and pepper to taste. Mix. Serve immediately. (If you will not be serving right away, add all the ingredients to a bowl and keep refrigerated. When you are ready to serve mix and serve.)
