Ingredients for Avocado Shrimp Canapes
- French bread – A French loaf or French baguette makes for the best bread for canapes! It gets crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.
- Shrimp – Seasoned shrimp, cooked to a juicy finish, make the perfect protein for this appetizer. Or you can use your favorite leftover shrimp with great results.
- Avocado spread – made with avocado, garlic, and seasoning.
See the recipe card below for a complete list of ingredients and quantities.

How to Make Avocado Shrimp Canapes

- Toast bread. Slice the baguette and add it to a baking sheet. Bake at 375°F for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown on the outside.

2. Season shrimp. Toss the raw shrimp in oil and season.

3. Cook shrimp. Cook in a hot skillet for a few minutes on both sides or until cooked through.

4. Make avocado spread. In a bowl, combine the avocado, garlic, lemon juice, and seasoning.

5. Assemble. Add the avocado spread to a piping bag and pipe a generous swirl onto each bread slice.

6. Garnish. Add a spoonful of avocado spread to each canapé and top with a shrimp.
Expert Tip:
- Prep in advance. Toast the bread, prepare the shrimp, make the spread, and assemble before serving! This makes the process even easier and more efficient. Store the shrimp and avocado in the fridge, and keep the bread fresh at room temperature in an airtight container.
Serve it Up!
Finger food galore. Serve these crostini with a variety of your favorite finger foods! A cheesy buffalo chicken dip and a fresh tomato-and-cheese appetizer make the perfect accompaniment to these canapes.

Store & Reheat
We recommend enjoying the canapes immediately, as the avocado spread can brown. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours, or until the avocado browns.

- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp paprika
- dash black pepper
avocado spread –
- 1 fresh avocado
- 1 garlic clove
- 2 tsp lemon or lime juice
- dash salt pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Slice the baguette into ½” slices. Arrange on a baking sheet and bake for 6-8 minutes, until the desired level of crunchiness is reached. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
- Meanwhile, toss the shrimp with the oil in a bowl. Then add the seasonings and toss again.
- Add the shrimp to a skillet and cook on med/high heat for 1 to 2 minutes per side, until pink and curled into a C. Set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, combine the avocado, garlic, lime juice, a dash of salt & pepper.
- Add the avocado spread to the baguette slices. I like to use a piping bag and tip; it doesn’t matter which method you use.
- Add a shrimp to each baguette slice.
- Garnish with desired fresh herbs and black pepper.
- Serve and enjoy, friends.
Notes
- Prep ahead. You can toast the bread, cook the shrimp, and make the avocado spread in advance, then assemble just before serving for the freshest results. Store the shrimp and avocado mixture in the refrigerator, and keep the toasted bread at room temperature in an airtight container.
- Leftovers. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Keep in mind that the avocado spread may begin to brown and won’t taste as fresh after that time.
