How to Make Crispy Chicken Sandwich Recipe:

This buttermilk chicken sandwich is so easy to make. The prep time and cook time is under 30 minutes (minus the marinating time).

  1. Cut the chicken breast into two to make two thing cutlets. Use a meat mallet to beat the cutlets into an even thickness.
  2. In a bowl, combine the marinade ingredients and add the chicken cutlets to the marinade. Let the chicken marinade for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, combine the ingredients for the breading. Take the chicken cutlet and allow the excess marinade to drip off. Dredge the chicken generously in the flour mixture so that all of the sides are covered. Press the breading into the chicken lightly.
  4. In a large pot, heat oil and heat to 350°F. Add the chicken cutlets gently into the hot oil and fry on both sides for 3-4 minutes per side. If the pot is too small, cook one cutlet at a time. Once golden brown, remove from the heat and allow the oil to drain by placing the cutlets on a wire rack.
  5. Build the sandwich: Lightly toast your buns, add a thin layer of mayo to the bun, add the chicken cutlet, finish with your favorite toppings, and enjoy!

Crispy Chicken Sandwich Toppings:

Here are some of our favorite toppings that we’ve fallen in love with over the years:

  • Cheese – cheddar or pepper jack cheese are our favorites!
  • Lettuce – romaine and even iceberg lettuce make a great green addition.
  • Tomato – sliced tomatoes add a juicy and crisp bite.
  • Pickles – sliced pickles add the perfect acidity and crunch to this sandwich.
  • Red onion – red onion rings are perfectly mild in flavor and are perfect in this sandwich.
  • Bacon – air-fried bacon strips add a great flavor to this sandwich.
  • Sauce – avocado ranch dressing is the secret to the most flavorful and delicious sauce. You can even use homemade chick-fil-a sauce for that restaurant-style chicken sandwich.
