You wouldn’t believe how easy this pumpkin latte is to make! The best part is that you can follow this homemade version no matter what coffee maker you have! Whether you like to use espresso or hot brewed coffee, this recipe will work for you! The key is the rich pumpkin flavor and the frothy steamed milk.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • Holiday favorite. There’s a reason that this coffee is a best seller this time of year! It’s that good!
  • Cheaper alternative. Coffee shops have gotten so expensive and making this classic coffee at home is so much cheaper.
  • Healthier treat. Making your own pumpkin flavor is so much better than the artificial sweeteners that most coffee shops use.

Ingredients for a Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte:

This recipe uses simple ingredients:

  • Coffee – you will want to use strong coffee for this recipe. Espresso will work best but you can also brew hot coffee using instant coffee if you don’t have an espresso maker.
  • Pumpkin puree and spice – you can find pumpkin puree at most grocery stores, and pumpkin pie spices add a great flavor boost.
  • Sugar – helps to sweeten the latte, but you can use your sweetener of choice. A homemade simple syrup, honey, or maple syrup are all great options.
  • Milk – this recipe uses whole milk, but 2% will work just fine! See below for dairy-free options!
  • Vanilla extract – compliments the pumpkin perfectly, you can also use vanilla syrup.

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and quantities.

Substitutions and Variations

All of the add-ins, substitutions, and different variations to the recipe you want to make.

Dairy-free: You can use non-dairy milk such as oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk, or almond milk for this recipe! Certain dairy-free milk doesn’t froth the best, but oat milk has the best results.

How to Make a Hot Pumpkin Spice Latte

The easiest step-by-step instructions:

  1. Pull the shots of espresso. For this recipe, you’re gonna need 2-3 shots of espresso for two drinks, or about ⅔ cups of strong instant coffee.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat pumpkin purée, pumpkin spice, and sugar on the stovetop.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk and the vanilla. Cook on medium heat until the milk begins to simmer. Be careful not to scald the milk!
  4. Remove from the heat and then pour in the coffee.
  5. Pour the latte into serving mugs and enjoy!

How to Make an Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte

  1. To your mug, add shots of espresso (1-2 per cup, depending on your strength preference).
  2. To the mug, add pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, and vanilla. Mix until the pumpkin purée is dissolved.
  3. Add milk and top with ice.
  4. Finish off with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon.

Expert Tips:

  • Get the perfect serving size: This recipe makes 2 lattes, so you can scale the portions up or down to make the perfect amount of lattes!
  • Don’t scald the milk! Make sure not to let the milk get to a rolling boil, or else it will burn and the taste won’t be good.
  • Decorate your drink! We love to finish our latte with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and a dash of cinnamon.
