Shredded chicken is a classic recipe that everyone should learn how to do! It is such an easy recipe and the uses for pulled chicken are endless! You can add shredded chicken to your salads, pot pies, soups or even pastas, you need this easy recipe. All you need to do is follow along for how to boil chicken.

INGREDIENTS-

  • Chicken– You want to make sure you use boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe. It can be either chicken breast or chicken thighs, both work great for this how to boil chicken tutorial.
  • Broth– We use chicken broth when cooking the chicken to give it more flavor! You can also just use water and add more seasoning.
  • Seasoning– This recipe calls for just salt and pepper for the seasoning, but you can use any of your favorite seasonings. Classic Chicken Seasoning, for a spicy Cajun Seasoning and Taco Seasoning may be added to the water.

HOW TO BOIL CHICKEN-

  1. Add the chicken breast, broth, salt, and pepper into a large pot. Bring to a boil and cook over medium heat for about 18-20 minutes.

SLOW COOKER METHOD-

  1. Add the chicken broth, chicken breast, salt, and pepper into the slow cooker and cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 5-6 hours.

HOW TO SHRED CHICKEN-

There are two different ways to shred chicken!

  • Fork Method– Place the cooked chicken on a cutting board or plate. With two forks, begin to separate and shred the meat. Do this with all of the chicken, shredding the desired size.
  • Mixer Method– Add the chicken breast into a large bowl and with a mixer, mix the chicken breast until shredded. We love using our stand mixer for this!

Once you have shredded the chicken, add to a container until ready to use. If you like juicer chicken, add some of the liquid from the pot to the chicken.

STORING-

This shredded chicken is perfect for making ahead of time, meal prepping and freezing!

  • Fridge– Add the chicken breast in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.
  • Freeze– This recipe is GREAT to freeze. Add the cooled shredded chicken into freezer safe plastic bags and freeze for up to 2-3 months. We love making an extra batch to freeze for later!
